A game 6 win allowed the Portland Trail Blazers to secure their series by a record of 4 games to 2. This was a shock to many Houston fans, since their team had proven to be talented in their own right. This is actually the first time in 14 years that the Blazers have made an appearance in the Western Conference semifinals. Houston actually lead in the game going in to the half, but the game was hotly contested throughout the night. Both teams exchanged leads and struggled to gain a competitive edge against one another. It wasn’t until Damian Lillard managed to net a three point shot that put the Blazers ahead down the stretch. This was a critical win at home for the Blazers, because it prevented the series from going to a game 7. This would have been held in Houston, which would have undoubtedly given the Rockets a major competitive edge.
Some fans will be interested to learn more about what players had a strong night during game 6. LaMarcus Aldridge was consistent as usual, scoring a team high of 30 points for the Blazers during the game. Aldridge was also able to register 13 rebounds for the team, which was a valuable asset for them. Damian Lillard proved to be an important component to the win as well. He added 25 points to the score for the Blazers. Lillard and Aldridge combined to produce more than half of the total offensive output that the Blazers needed to secure the win.
The game was preceded by a ceremony held for Jack Ramsay, who recently passed away. Ramsay had guided the team through its championship season in 1977 and had been an honored member of the franchise. Many fans were glad to see that his legacy was celebrated with a crucial victory that helped the organization achieve a certain level of success. Damian Lillard also made franchise history, since he hit multiple three point shots in six consecutive playoff games. Given all of the components of the team, many fans will be watching to see how the Blazers stack up as they advance.
