The Portland Timbers brings Portland the first championship the city has seen in almost 40 years since the Trail Blazers in 1977. Timbers fans didn’t have to sit on the edge of their seats to long, actually if you weren’t paying attention you probably missed the first goal of the match 30 seconds into the game when Diego Valeri challenge the keeper on a play-back & was able to knock the ball into the net to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead early into the game.
Shortly after Rodney Wallace headed in the second goal for the Timbers to have them go up 2-0 off a very questionable non-call by the line judge. The Timbers would give up one goal later in the first half to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room. That would also be the final score of the match. The match was not the best to watch, but it was very entertaining from a fans point.
The Timbers celebrated with their fans in downtown Portland on Tuesday with over 9,000 fans showing up in terrible weather conditions. Portland is truly Soccer City USA!.
