The Portland Timbers took on the Vancouver Whitecaps Sunday afternoon for the first game of this playoff series.
The Timbers controlled much of the game however in the end ended with a 0-0 tie at home against the Whitecaps. This could be a bright spot considering the Timbers played an extratime match against Sporting Kansas City on Thursday & well as playing without their starting goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey due to illness. Portland had some questionable calls go against them in the first half that could have easily led to a couple penalty kick scores.
At the half the Whitecaps had out shot the Portland Timbers on goal 4 to 8. However, even with those numbers, it still felt like the Timbers were in control the first half. The second half wasn’t any different, multiple chances for the Timbers, but the ball just couldn’t find the back of the net. Maximiliano Urruti did have the best chance of the night; with a few minutes remaining Urruti hit a shot off the far goalpost.
Next week’s match against these 2 clubs should be another great one!
