The Portland Timbers took on the Chicago Fire in the 2nd game of the Simple Invitational on Wednesday night. The turnout was great considering that the Portland Trail Blazers had a home game against the San Antonio Spurs and the fact that it was a raining game in the middle of the week.
The Portland Timbers struck first in the 22nd minute with the first goal of the match by Michael Nanchoff. He had a free kick that went off the back of Fire player and into the goal. Unfortunately for the Timbers, 22 minutes later the Chicago Fire tied the game up with an own goal when Norberto Paparatto headed the ball into his own goal.
The play of Dairon Asprilla and his footwork will definitely make him an exciting player to watch this year for the Timbers. He had several plays that had an impact on the match and it continues to look like he’s getting comfortable out there & building chemistry with his new teammates. Asprilla is a Colombian soccer player that signed with the Timbers on December 8, 2014. He was on loan to Alianza Petrolera for 2 years from 2012-2014, having scored 22 goals in 71 game appearances.
Overall the Timbers played a solid game with a mixture of line ups, with only a couple more preseason games left…the Timbers look to be an exciting team this year right out of the gate.
