Volunteers and Trail Blazers staff traveled to Rosa Parks Elementary School in North Portland to help students kick off another year of the Read Big program. More than a dozen volunteer readers from Knowledge Universe, the Trail Blazers, and SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) paired up with 2nd grade students for a one-one-one reading session and then all students in kindergarten, first, and second grade were treated to an energetic Read Big assembly with Blaze.
This event kicks off the second year of Read Big, the Trail Blazers literacy program sponsored by Knowledge Universe, that is focused on inspiring kids to read. Staff or faculty at elementary schools around the state can sign up for the program to supplement the work they’re already doing to enrich their reading efforts.
