Hillsboro, OR (June 23, 2014) – Anderson Placido, a left-handed pitcher for the Hillsboro Hops (@HillsboroHops), has been named the first Northwest League Pitcher of the Week for the 2014 season. The first weekly award encompasses the first 10 days of the season (June 13-22).
Placido set a Hops franchise record with 12 strikeouts in his first outing of the year, on June 15 at Everett. He went 5.1 innings, allowing three hits and no runs, while walking just one in a 3-0 Hillsboro win. He struck out 10 of the first 12 to face him.
In his second start, on June 20 at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, Placido tossed five innings against Salem-Keizer, allowing just one run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts. He got no decision in a 2-1 Hops win.
Placido, a 20-year-old from Las Terrenas in the province of Samana in the Dominican Republic, leads the NWL in strikeouts with 16.
Through the season’s first 10 days, the Hops (6-4) are in first place in the South Division, with a 1.5-game lead over Eugene.
