The performance will begin at 8 p.m. and marks Carlos’ first appearance at MGM Grand.

Carlos was born in the town of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, in the state of Espírito Santo, and began singing on the radio at the age of nine. When he was still a boy, his family moved to Rio de Janeiro where, with his school mates, he formed a vocal group called The Sputnicks. He later formed another group, The Snakes, this time with Erasmo Carlos – his partner in most of his musical work. Carlos began performing at clubs and parties, either alone or in a group, and started appearing regularly on the television program “Clube do Rock,” being introduced to viewers as the “Brazilian Elvis.” He also sang in a nightclub at Hotel Plaza following the bossa nova’s footsteps of João Gilberto, while he was trying out the path of a novice artist in search of a record label.
His first recording was in 1959, by Polydor. In 1960 he recorded a 78-rpm album and his first LP song “Louco por você” quickly became a hit. With frequent appearances on TV programs, he embarked on a successful career and began being recognized throughout Brazil. In 1963, with the release of the album Splish Splash, Carlos became one of the most popular young artists of the time. The following year came the release of É Proibido Fumar, replete with songs that would become classics of Brazilian music including “O calhambeque.”
With the eventual worldwide explosion of the Beatles, rock music quickly landed in Brazil, manifesting itself through a movement that would put Carlos on the King’s throne for the first time. The hit-show Jovem Guarda started out as a television show with record-breaking audiences among young people and one of the biggest hits of Brazilian TV ever. In November 1965, the LP titled Jovem Guarda landed on the scene, revolutionizing the musical language of the time through songs such as Quero que vá tudo pro inferno (roughly translated as “It can all go to hell”). It was lyrics such as these which were quite bold for the time and made a statement to the fans.
Carlos has released more than 58 albums in Brazil, more than 100 albums internationally and has composed more than 500 songs. He is the only Latin American singer to sell more records than the Beatles and Elvis Presley, with more than 100 million albums. Carlos is the only artist in the history of music to have released an album every year for 48 consecutive years. In most of these years he recorded a second version of the album in Spanish and at other times in Italian, French and English as well.
